linen pillow covers Add Character with a Hallway Wall Gallery pillow covers farmhouse

2020-01-17 11:52

Hey friends! HAPPY MONDAY! It is a happy Monday for me because my sweet girls are back in preschool this week. Don't get me wrong, I loved having them home for Spring Break and we did so many fun things (went to the Zoo, saw Zootopia, playdates, etc)linen pillow covers, but I am a creature of habit and I love my routine :) So, I am back in the swing of things and am super excited to show you how you can add some character to your home with a hallway wall gallery.

Hallways can be challenging to decorate because they are usually long and narrow. But I actually see them as a fabulous opportunity to display family photos and other personal pieces especially when it's a hallway that is not in a “;public area”; of your home (though I am also a firm believer in displaying family photos wherever the heck you please)! So, when we first moved into our home 3 years ago, I hung lots of my DIY photo canvases with authentic texture in our upstairs hallway. This is what our hallway looked like for the past 3 years.

My DIY photo canvases certainly helped to liven up the hallway on a budget, but the look was pretty one dimensional and boring after a while. So, to create some dimension and texture to our wall gallery, I added several inexpensive photo ledges from Ikea and some custom photo pieces from Minted, as well as some faux greenery. WHAT A DIFFERENCE those minor changes made to the space. Take a look for yourself! See something you love? Don't worry :) There's a complete source list at the end of this post. Just adding the photo ledges made a huge difference because it added some dimension and allowed me to layer photos, which creates loads of visual interest and allows for more texture. It also helped that I broke up the canvases with framed pieces, especially since I chose twogorgeous frames for my custom personalized art pieces. The first one is a photo collage from Minted featuring some of our favorite family photos and framed in a rustic wood frame. I love how it pairs with the streamlined canvases and the framed succulents that I found at Target.

The second personalized art piece from Minted is a single photo with personalized text on it. I chose to have it say “;Our family. Our everything.”; It makes me smile every time I see it, which is a lot because it's hanging in between my office and my twin girls' room. And check out the amazing texture and pattern on the frame! The potted orchid is from Ikea.

And that AWESOME #blogger sign is hanging on the door to my office and is hands down one of my favorite things in our house. It was given to me as a gift by my incredibly sweet and talented friend LZ who blogs at The Summery Umbrella and who owns her own store in Burgaw, NC where she sells her stunning handmade signs. It's super special to me. She also made the “;The best is yet to come sign”; that you see in some of the photos above. Don't worry–;she also sells her creations on Etsy. You can check out her online shop here.

Adding small touches like come typography A's that we have collected over time also adds character and gives people something to look at other than just our family photos :)

How friggin' adorable is this lucite A from HomeGoods? I purchased it almost a year ago and am so happy to finally have somewhere to display it! (PS- I promise that's not a ton of dust on the shelf–;it's some weird glare I couldn't get rid of).

What do you think? More personality now, huh? What's your favorite addition?

Now, as promised, you can find the source list below :)

It is easy to neglect the windows when it comes to designing or decorating your home. One reason they may be getting left behind is due to the sheer cost of replacing all the window coverings in the home at one time. A single curtain or blind may not seem very expensive, however when you multiply the cost by double digits you can easily reach several hundred pounds for window treatments. Here are a few new upcoming trends in window treatments that you might want to consider.

It's a quick little project. A couple of bracelets made from parts of old faux leather jacket donated me by a friend. It's quiet posible that you may have similar parts or an old belt that you can turn into a bracelet like this. So I'll show you how I did this.

Reader Emily sent me photos of her save-the-date that she made to share with you all! I love seeing couples getting creative and DIYing their paper products. I thought they turned out really cute!
